It sells different grades of syrup, from dark to amber, plus candies and maple cream. In addition to the pancake meals, the inn is a great place to shop for maple products. It takes 40 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup. The family places over 10,000 taps each year, and most of the sap is piped by tubing to holding tanks. The restaurant has been remodeled and expanded many times. The Cartwrights have been tapping maple trees since the 1850s, and the Cartwright family continues to operate the business. We visited last year in the afternoon around 2 p.m., thinking we would avoid the lunch and dinner crowds, but the line still stretched out the door. The lines for pancakes on weekends are long. I enjoy using the maple syrup as a coffee sweetener in addition to the pancakes. Cartwright's is known for its all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes and all the syrup you want to pour on top of them, with one of the best deals being "Granny's favorite": pancakes with one sausage patty and one slice of ham for $8.60. 11, and the short window of opportunity closes on April 11.
